On March 27, 2008 10-year-old Katie Doll’s life was changed forever. The little girl was driving a go-cart with her brother and friend when they flipped over in a field off Highway 14 near Greer...leaving Katie with severe injuries.
Since then she’s been hospitalized and on Saturday bikers came together to help pay the medical bills that continue to pile up for the Doll family. Her uncle, Bryan Parris, talked about how the idea for the benefit poker run began.
“We just got to talking about it and started making phone calls and talking to people and here we are just trying to help the family with the medical bills,” said Parris.
Word got out and more than 1000 bikers were scheduled to make the $20 donation to ride for Katie.
“She would just be overwhelmed,” said Parris. “If it was somebody else Katie would do it for them that’s just the kind of little girl she is.”
A little girl who even showed up to the benefit unable to talk but able to take in all that was being done just for her.
“It’s awesome just to be out here and see that the community is rallying around her seeing that people do have a heart,” said Parris.
A show of support for a family facing a long road to recovery.
“On Katie’s mom it’s been rough she’ll have good days she’ll have bad days and you know it’s up and down and just for her to be able to see that people do care is going to make a real big difference in their life,” said Parris.
If you’d like to make a donation to Katie Doll you can stop by any Greer State Bank. For more information go to www.ilovekatiedoll.com
